Varnish or UV

Varnishes are important in printing because they provide protection, enhance visual appearance, offer resistance to moisture and external agents, and allow special effects and textures on printed materials, thus contributing to their quality and durability.

Varnishes and UV varnishes are two different types of finishes used in graphic arts. Varnishes dry through evaporation or penetration, while UV varnishes dry through a chemical bonding mechanism achieved by subjecting the varnish to ultraviolet light irradiation [1].

The UV varnish is resistant to water, grease, and dirt, and is ideal for products that seek a glossy, elegant finish. It also provides additional shine to the packaging and can protect it from fading and wear. On the other hand, acrylic varnishes offer fast, odorless drying, as they dry through water evaporation. They are used on a multitude of substrates and, for many, are the most eco-friendly type of varnish.
